Contractors

Are you a contractor who is interested in having access to a professional and well trained workforce? Are you looking to grow your business but are having trouble finding qualified and reliable candidates? Would you like to be able to offer your employees better benefits but the cost of administering more extensive benefits is prohibitive? Are you looking to increase compliance from your employees regarding your safety program? Is workplace morale effecting productivity? Do you wish you could provide more training opportunities to your employees?

We pride ourselves in working WITH our signatory contractors to help them succeed. We as a Union succeed when you succeed. We are proud to have Collective Bargaining Agreements with the biggest marine construction companies in the United States. We have positive and mutually beneficial relationships with our Signatory Contractors and take pride in our ability to work together towards common goals.

Utilizing Local 25’s Hiring Halls when you have open positions to fill often streamlines and simplifies the hiring process, which can be time consuming and labor intensive. Our members are experienced, professional and well trained.

Benefits are just as important as wages and is a common reason good employers lose good employees. Unfortunately, administering different benefits plans can be incredibly costly. Utilizing Local 25’s Benefit Funds allows you to offer your employees top notch benefits without having to administer the Plans yourself (though all of our Plans are governed by a Board of Trustees, which includes Union and Employer representatives). These Funds fall under the jurisdiction of the Taft- Hartley Act of 1947, which allows employers to contribute money into a Joint Trust Fund for the purpose of providing benefits to the members of the Union and their dependents.

Surveys show that safety is one of the biggest concerns from employers in the construction industry. From a human standpoint and from a liability standpoint, every employer is looking to encourage compliance with their safety program. With government safety regulations getting stricter in our industry, every employer must take this issue seriously. We encourage our members to adhere to their employer’s safety program and provide safety training as well. Our Signatory Contractors have realized that in situations where they aren’t getting through to their employees, our members, in regards to safety, that employee or group of employees responds much more favorably when they employer includes the Union in their program and with encouraging compliance from our members. When we show a united front and a desire to work together, the employee/member takes it seriously.

Workplace morale and productivity go hand in hand. Studies show that workplace morale is substantially higher on union projects. Continuity in wages and benefits for different job classifications creates much less backstabbing and resentment between employees. When your employees feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves, and that their Employer encourages and participates in that mentality as well, their loyalty and enthusiasm for their job increases. When your employees feel like they have a voice, productivity increases.

As a Signatory Contractor, you and your employees will have access to the Joint Union / Employer Training Fund. This is an initiative between the Union and Employers to encourage training and to offer training classes and reimbursement for obtaining credentials. This is a huge benefit to our members and we are continuing to expand our Training Program. This benefit to your employees cannot be overstated.

There are many benefits to being a Signatory Contractor with Local 25. Being able to pool resources with other employers and with the Union creates many more opportunities that you can provide to your employees.

It is much easier and less disruptive when an Employer chooses to join a Union rather than waiting for their employees to start organizing from the ground up. We always say organizing from the top down is our first option. Local 25 has so much to offer our Signatory Contractors. Feel free to contact our President / Business Manager Anthony Gonsiewski to discuss your options further.
